Does type and number of used substances affect the severity of illness in patients with substance use disorders?

Abstract Background Substance use disorders (SUD) are considered as serious mental illnesses, with variability of age onset, duration illness, and type used substance among patients. The effect number substances on the severity such an illness worth scientific investigation. In this study, we tried to investigate probable relationship between degree in a sample upper Egyptian To predict risk factors associated SUD. Results Opiates (including tramadol) were most frequently followed by cannabis then heroin. Patients using poly scored significantly higher than ones single AIS ( p = 0.001), well legal, drug, family social subscales ASI (0.012 0.006, 0.002 respectively). Multiple stepwise linear regression analysis demonstrated that was prominent factor determining substance-related disorder. Conclusions Using more one is common patients disorders. This usually severe form consequences illness. So, some combinations morbidity others.
